Restoration Chronology
May 31st, 2022After being used by the École nationale d'aérotechnique to power a Bombardier CL-601 Challenger and a Dornier 328, the "Mobile Electrical Power Plant" MMG-1A was stored outside for many years following an unresolved malfunction. It was scheduled to go to the scrapyard. |
June 22nd, 2022The MMG-1A is donated by the ÉNA to the QAM, which then prepared a STEM project with this GPU for the benefit of the "Avionics" student club of the School. The equipment is sheltered in the A22A hangar alongside the AFSG-1 GPU, also the subject of a STEM project. |
September 14th, 2022An initial exterior cleaning was carried out and, two days later, Bell Textron Canada became the project sponsor, thus making it possible to acquire the equipment required to put the MMG-1A back into operation. |
September 2022 till November 2023Not having any electrical diagram other than the wiring diagram present on the MMG-1A, a “reverse engineering” process is initiated. The manufacturer NAVAIR was contacted, but without success. As for the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola, Florida, no documentation is available on this side as well. However, museum officials wish to follow the evolution of the MAQ project. |
November 1st, 2023The internal cleaning of the MMG-1A began. Over the years, dust and grime inevitably built up inside the device. But this does not demotivate our students, quite the contrary! |
November 1st, 2023Two representatives from Bell Textron Canada's Product Support Engineering came to visit the students from the "Avionics" group carrying out the refurbishment of the MMG-1A. |
February 7th, 2024Students from the “Avionics” group were preparing to assemble a relay test box of their design. |
February 7th, 2024After dismantling the structural elements providing access to the AC-DC conversion circuits, we saw that they would require a little cleaning! |
March 20th, 2024Assembly of the AC relay test box continued. |
March 20th, 2024Simultaneously, two students began the thankless job of cleaning the DC section of MMG-1A. |
